Fine artist Charlotte Meadows

A little about myself… I am passionate about art and have loved to paint and draw all my life.  I’ve lived in a number of places, but have spent the majority of my life in the South — in Texas and Mississippi.

I can’t remember the first time I started drawing. I remember looking at and drawing newspaper comics. Constantly being outdoors, I would sketch everything I saw, especially trees and barns.

I took many art classes in college, but when I was introduced to the “colorist method,” I began to love painting more in oil. Using that method, I was trained to see color as it relates to the sun. I’ve studied under several wonderful artists, a few were students of Henry Hensche, where I learned different ways of capturing color and light. I have also spent time painting en plein air - which is the practice of painting things live while out of doors.

Watercolor is one of my favorite mediums for portraits, flowers, and many other subjects. Narrowing my interests is challenging because I see beauty everywhere. However, people are my absolute favorite subject to paint. Capturing expressions in portraits is such a joy for me.

You can find my paintings throughout the South. My work has also found its way into several boutiques here and there as well as various art shows. One of my favorite pastimes is working with children. Their innocence and creativity never cease to surprise and delight me. I’ve been fortunate to impart my love of art in workshops and in teaching children. For many years, I conducted summer art camps for children in my home. It was always a delight and a highlight of my year.

Kind things people have said about my art…

  • “This turned out so beautifully. They were SO surprised and thrilled with it. Thank you again for creating a gift I know they will treasure the rest of their lives." — Kim F.

  • “I didn’t think I could love the portraits more… and then I picked them up! They’re even more exquisite in person! — India T.

  • “I absolutely love it. It’s beautiful.” — Connie N.

  • “Such a beautiful piece. Just perfect.” — Colin H.

I would love to hear from you!

FAQs

  • Yes, I do! I will need to see the pose you like as well as some other closeups. That will help me to have several frames of reference so I can see the personality and expressions of the person or object being painted. I prefer to paint portraits of the person in action over a more formal traditional portrait.

Please send a picture with sunlight and some shadow. The portrait will have better detail and make a more dramatic painting if I have lots of sunlight.

If you are taking the picture, please try to get some close ups at the person’s level.

  • Yes, I do! I love to use charcoal and pencil to sketch portraits. They are very detailed and are usually a head shot. I will need to have a close up reference photo full of light so I can see detail.

  • Framing is such a personal preference, I leave the framing up to you. It can depend on your home decor, your taste, and your style preferences.

That said, if you’d like my opinion on what might compliment a particular piece or work best with your interior style, I am happy to give you my two cents.

  • If I am familiar with your geographic area, I will be happy to recommend frame shops that do good work. I am also happy to consult with you on this process.

  • This can vary wildly, depending on the size of the painting and the framing materials you choose. It’s very difficult to even give a ballpark on this because it is dependent on so many factors.

  • Yes! We can schedule an appointment to meet for a portrait sitting. I like to have additional photos so I can finish the portrait with the information I can see in the photographs. Then the sitting doesn’t have to be a long one.

  • I can paint embellishments or other requests on already printed wedding invitations.

I do have plans to print cards of my work so please follow my Instagram or website. And join my mailing list for upcoming collections of artwork and prints of my art.
